Possible peanut and tree nut allergy causes, to name a few:
- Genetics
- Genetically modified (GM) foods. (Source: “Latest GMO Research: Decreased Fertility, Immunological Alterations and Food Allergies,” AllergyMoms.com.
- Dry-roast process common in the U.S. may increase potency of allergenic proteins
- Early exposure in the womb, breast milk, or during early childhood.
- “Hygiene Hypothesis” (“hygienic” societies under-challenge immune systems that, therefore, overreact to common proteins. Read more FOR or AGAINST this theory.
- Weak or “bored” immune systems: modern medical practices that employ antibiotics and immunizations give the immune system little or nothing to fight. (Source: “Why We’re Going Nuts Over Nut Allergies,” Time magazine.)
- Staph infection in eczema during early childhood. (Source: “Does Staph Cause Peanut Allergy?” AllergyMoms.com.)
There are no known cures for peanut/nut allergies.
Complete avoidance of specific allergens is the only option.
